Pittsburgh Steelers Trade Scenario Replaces Russell Wilson with a $38 Million Quarterback in a Monumental Blockbuster Trade.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have several quarterback options, including the possibility of replacing Russell Wilson with a younger player to either challenge or back up current starter Justin Fields.

Several teams might be interested in acquiring Wilson, with the Las Vegas Raiders being a potential suitor.

“Wilson’s minimum salary could be appealing to teams, provided he’s willing to waive his no-trade clause,” reported Jeremy Fowler of ESPN on October 9. “The Raiders were previously on his list of preferred destinations.”

If the Steelers choose to move on from Wilson, who is on a $1.2 million contract this year and hasn’t played a regular-season game yet, it would indicate their confidence in Fields as the starter for the remainder of the season.

However, Fields does have his limitations and is in the final year of his rookie contract. If he doesn’t reach a new deal with Pittsburgh, he’ll become an unrestricted free agent in March 2025.

This situation means the Steelers might be in the market for another quarterback before the NFL trade deadline on November 5. One possible option is Bryce Young, the former No. 1 overall pick from the Carolina Panthers.

Adam Schefter of ESPN mentioned in September that the Panthers are more likely to trade Young during the offseason. However, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report recently suggested that this could change soon.

“A strong offer could alter the Panthers’ plans, and making a move before 2025 would be smart for teams looking for a long-term quarterback,” Knox noted. “Fields is still a potential long-term solution for Pittsburgh, but if his performance declines, Young might be the next former first-round pick for the Steelers to consider.”

Young is currently in the second year of his four-year, $38 million rookie deal, which includes a team option for 2027.
