The Yankees are set to call up Jasson Domínguez ahead of their game tonight against the Royals at Yankee Stadium. Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News was the first to note that the top prospect already had a locker in the team’s clubhouse, with David Lennon of Newsday Sports adding that Domínguez’s belongings were already inside. SNY’s Andy Martino later confirmed that Domínguez would be joining the team to take on an everyday role. However, the team has not yet made an official announcement regarding any roster moves.
Domínguez made his MLB debut last September, posting an impressive .980 OPS and 160 wRC+ in eight games as the Yankees’ center fielder before suffering a UCL tear that required Tommy John surgery, ending his season. After being activated from the injured list in June, he was sent to Triple-A rather than being placed on the active roster due to the Yankees’ crowded outfield. Aaron Judge was in center, Juan Soto in right, Alex Verdugo was performing well in left, and Giancarlo Stanton was regularly playing as the designated hitter. The team opted to give Domínguez regular playing time with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
