He joined the Dallas Stars afterward, playing his first Stanley Cup Playoff game since 2016, filling in as a sixth defenseman in the second round against the Colorado Avalanche. He played seven games, averaging over 12 minutes of ice time per game, and finished with a plus-1 rating.

In his NHL career, Petrovic has recorded 50 points (five goals, 45 assists) in 264 regular-season games over nine seasons. He debuted in the NHL with the Florida Panthers in 2013, spending his first seven seasons there. Traded to the Edmonton Oilers in 2019, he played nine games before signing with the Boston Bruins, Calgary Flames, and Dallas Stars as a free agent. Petrovic was called up to Dallas for one game in the 2023-24 season.

Originally drafted by the Florida Panthers in the second round (No. 36) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Petrovic now looks forward to continuing his career with the Dallas Stars.
