Report: Celtics May Still Pursue Two More Offseason Trades
Brad Stevens and the Boston Celtics have already been active this offseason. Following Jayson Tatum’s torn Achilles injury and the team’s challenges with the luxury tax, Boston was compelled to part ways with two key players early in the offseason.
The first significant move was a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers that sent veteran guard Jrue Holiday to the West Coast. In return, the Celtics acquired Anfernee Simons as the focal point of the deal.
Next, the team completed another trade, sending Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks. In exchange, Boston received Georges Niang as the primary asset.
Despite these major roster changes, the Celtics may not be finished reshaping their team.

NBA insider Jake Fischer recently reported that Boston remains engaged in trade discussions and may be exploring additional deals.
“As we’ve mentioned, the Celtics are still very much involved in trade conversations—perhaps even initiating them,” Fischer stated. “There was talk last week of a potential deal with the Memphis Grizzlies, though details are still emerging. Rival executives continue to believe Boston is weighing options involving both Anfernee Simons and Georges Niang.”
Simons is set to earn more than $27.6 million in the final year of his contract. A trade could potentially ease the team’s financial burden. However, Brad Stevens recently praised Simons and discussed his value to the team.
“Anfernee’s a player people here might not have seen much of because of when his games are aired,” Stevens noted. “But he’s an elite scorer, a tough shot-maker, and a strong shooter. He’s 26 years old and has averaged 20 points per game over the past three seasons.”

Regarding Niang, he’s also on an expiring deal, set to make $8.2 million this season.
Ultimately, it’s uncertain what direction Boston will take. The team could easily begin the 2025–26 season with both Simons and Niang still on the roster.
However, don’t be surprised if trade rumors continue to swirl around the Celtics. At a minimum, they remain a franchise worth watching, as signs suggest they’re still open to making moves
