Nuggets Finalize Decisions on Two Players Ahead of Free Agency

With NBA free agency set to begin on June 30th, the Denver Nuggets have made decisions regarding two of their two-way contract players as they prepare for a crucial offseason. The franchise is aiming to build a stronger roster around star center Nikola Jokic, who recently emphasized the need for additional talent. The importance of bench depth became especially clear during the NBA Finals, and it’s believed that a deeper rotation could have helped Denver surpass the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round.

As part of their roster evaluation, the Nuggets have focused on their younger talent and players on two-way deals. Over the weekend, the team made decisions on two such players.

According to Tony Jones of The Athletic, the Nuggets have chosen to part ways with PJ Hall, terminating his two-way contract. Hall, who had a standout collegiate career at Clemson and was a two-time All-ACC honoree, went undrafted in 2024 and signed with Denver. Despite his college success, he struggled to make an impact in the NBA, appearing in just 19 games and averaging 3.5 minutes, 1.7 points, and 1.2 rebounds per contest.

In contrast, the Nuggets have opted to extend a two-way qualifying offer to Spencer Jones, as reported by Keith Smith of Spotrac. Jones, an undrafted rookie from Stanford, showed promise defensively during his 20-game stint with Denver, averaging 1.3 points per game. By tendering this offer, the Nuggets have made Jones a restricted free agent beginning July 1st. This gives Denver the right to match any offers he may receive. If Jones accepts the qualifying offer and no alternate agreement is reached, he will return on a one-year deal.

These moves highlight the Nuggets’ focus on developing young talent while restructuring their bench depth for another run at the title.
