European Club Eyes £5m Permanent Deal for Sunderland Loan Star – Reports

Salis Abdul Samed, who was on loan at Sunderland during the 2024/25 season, is reportedly attracting transfer interest from Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart.

The Ghanaian midfielder spent the last campaign at the Stadium of Light, though his time was disrupted by injuries. He made only 11 appearances across all competitions, totaling 320 minutes of play. Following the end of his loan spell, which did not include a purchase option, Samed returned to his parent club RC Lens in France.

Stuttgart Lining Up Summer Move

According to a report from Africa Foot, Stuttgart have identified the 25-year-old as a key target and are preparing a £5.1 million bid to secure his services permanently. The club is said to be planning a major squad overhaul, and Samed is viewed as an important part of that rebuild. Stuttgart’s sporting director, Christian Gentner, reportedly values Samed’s skills as a “ball winner and game organiser”.

The report also suggests that Samed is open to the idea of moving to Germany, viewing a switch to Stuttgart as a “significant challenge” in his career. He is currently under contract with RC Lens until 2028, but Stuttgart are said to be offering a four-year deal.

Praise from George Boateng

Former Dutch international and ex-Aston Villa midfielder George Boateng spoke about Samed’s potential after Sunderland’s play-off defeat to Coventry City last month. In quotes reported by Ghana Soccer Net, Boateng highlighted Samed’s contributions to Ghana’s 2022 World Cup squad, where he performed well alongside Thomas Partey.

“Salis Samed is a very talented player. At the World Cup in Qatar, he was a surprise inclusion but slotted in seamlessly,” Boateng said. “His time at Sunderland was hampered by a long-term injury, which made it hard for him to establish himself. But he has the qualities that fit the English game. If he had remained fit or if the loan was extended, he could have been a major asset.”
