UNDISPUTABLE HONOR: Vancouver’s Rising Star Goalie on the Brink of Making AHL History as Canucks Prospect Hit Shocking Playoff Record…
Abbotsford is just one step away, with five wins already secured — and so is Vancouver Canucks’ top goaltending prospect, Arturs Silovs, who is on the brink of matching, or even surpassing, a long-standing AHL record.
Silovs, 24, has been a standout performer in this year’s AHL playoffs, leading the Abbotsford Canucks with an impressive 10-3-0 record across 14 postseason games. His statistics have been remarkable: a goals-against average of 1.61, a .941 save percentage, and five shutouts during this Calder Cup run.
The record for most shutouts in a single Calder Cup playoff campaign stands at six — a mark set 25 years ago in 2000 by former Canucks goalie Mika Noronen. At just 20 years old, Noronen made that mark in his first full North American season with the Rochester Americans, a performance that earned him AHL Rookie of the Year honors. That playoff run saw him post a 13-8 record in 21 games, along with a 1.80 GAA and a .936 save percentage.
Despite his early achievements, Noronen’s career in North America was relatively short-lived, lasting six seasons in total — including stints in the NHL — before he continued his professional journey across Europe in leagues throughout Russia, Sweden, Finland, Germany, and Switzerland. His final NHL stop was with the Canucks.
Silovs, on the other hand, is still early in his career. At 24, he has the potential not only to challenge Noronen’s record but also to contend for a spot with the Vancouver Canucks, especially amid speculation about Thatcher Demko’s future with the team.
For now, Silovs remains focused on the Calder Cup Western Conference Final — and with more games ahead, the shutout record is well within his reach.
