Former Aberdeen Manager Stephen Glass Named Assistant to Robbie Keane at Hungarian Giants
Stephen Glass, former manager of Aberdeen, has been appointed as the assistant coach to ex-Celtic striker Robbie Keane at Ferencváros, the reigning Hungarian champions.
The 49-year-old says he feels instantly comfortable at the Budapest-based club and is excited about contributing to their Champions League campaign.
Glass was dismissed by Aberdeen in February 2022 after just under a year in charge, with the team in ninth place and recently knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Motherwell. He later took charge of Memphis 901 in the USL Championship, but the club ceased operations last year.
Now, Glass joins Keane’s backroom staff at Ferencváros as the team prepares for a Champions League push following their domestic title win.
Reflecting on his new role, Glass said:
“When Robbie reached out, I took a close look at the club. Even being from Scotland, I already knew about Ferencváros’s rich history. It’s a renowned club, and I’m grateful for the chance to help improve things further. We have some huge Champions League matches ahead, and we’re aiming to win another league title too.
“The city is stunning, the people have been incredibly welcoming, and I already feel settled. Interestingly, I played here over three decades ago for Scotland U21s and even scored, so it feels a bit like coming full circle. I’m here to support Robbie and help the team succeed.”
Keane, who earned 146 caps for Ireland, is enthusiastic about his new assistant. Glass steps in following the departure of Keane’s former No.2, Rory Delap, who left to return to England for family reasons.
“Stephen brings a wealth of experience,” Keane commented. “He’s managed teams, knows the game in detail, and has great people skills — which are vital. His football knowledge is top-notch, and I’m excited to have him alongside me.”
