FC Barcelona are moving quickly to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2025–26 season, even though the summer transfer window hasn’t officially opened yet.
The Catalan giants have already secured the services of goalkeeper Joan Garcia by activating his release clause. Additionally, recent reports suggest they have reached a personal agreement with Athletic Club winger Nico Williams.
At the same time, Barcelona are actively working to raise funds needed to register these new arrivals. Part of this financial strategy includes facilitating the exits of certain players from the current roster.
Barcelona Benefiting Financially from Past Players
Although no player from last season’s squad has been officially sold yet, the club has still managed to earn a notable sum through the transfer market.
This income stems from the sale of Alex Valle, who had been out on loan and was sold to Como. Barcelona also received money from the transfers of several former players over whom they retained certain economic rights — such as Alex Collado, Ilaix Moriba, and Jean-Clair Todibo.
Ludovit Reis Transfer Nearing Completion
According to SPORT, another former Barcelona player could soon make a move that would financially benefit the club. Dutch midfielder Ludovit Reis is reportedly close to transferring from SV Hamburg to Club Brugge in a deal worth €6 million. Barcelona will receive 25% of that amount, which equals €1.5 million.
Reis originally joined Hamburg in 2021 for free, though Barcelona retained a clause for 25% of any future sale. Although they are now set to gain financially, the club will still record a net loss on the player, as they paid €3.25 million to sign him from FC Groningen in 2019.
Aside from Reis, Barcelona could also see income from potential transfers involving other former players like Oscar Mingueza, Francisco Trincao, Mika Marmol, Estanis Pedrola, and Ferran Jutglà.
