BREAKING NEWS: Barcelona Shift Transfer Focus Away from Full-Backs as Vanderson Looks Elsewhere…

In the constantly evolving landscape of Barcelona’s transfer activity, it initially seemed that this summer would mark the club’s move to secure a permanent full-back signing. However, Eric Garcia’s strong performances at right-back towards the end of the season against Inter and Real Madrid appear to have altered those plans.

Throughout the winter, reports consistently indicated that strengthening the right-back position was one of Barcelona’s top priorities. Players such as Marc Pubill, Givairo Read, Andrei Ratiu, and Vanderson were all mentioned as potential signings — promising, cost-effective options who could challenge Jules Kounde for a starting role. At present, however, it appears that Barcelona is no longer pursuing any of them.

Barcelona’s priorities have shifted significantly in recent months. Director of Football Deco is now focusing more on bolstering the team’s attacking options, with head coach Hansi Flick seemingly supporting this shift in strategy.

In contrast to their earlier plans, the club’s management has now set their sights on Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, who has a €25 million release clause. Still, with Barcelona facing continued salary cap restrictions, it’s likely they’ll only be able to bring in one or two new players, making a full-back acquisition improbable.

Meanwhile, Vanderson has reportedly moved on from the idea of joining Barcelona. Although he was one of Deco’s preferred choices — admired for his flexibility and followed closely by the club — the AS Monaco defender now recognizes that Barcelona is headed in another direction. With Premier League clubs showing interest, Vanderson is exploring other opportunities.
