Denver Nuggets Issue Injury Update on Russell Westbrook…
The Denver Nuggets have officially released a significant update regarding Russell Westbrook’s injury status.
During the previous offseason, Denver took a calculated risk by signing veteran point guard Russell Westbrook to a two-year contract valued at $6.7 million, which includes a player option for the 2025–26 season.
In his first year with the team, Westbrook posted solid numbers—averaging 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. He became an essential asset to the Nuggets’ roster as they pursued a championship run, which ultimately ended in the second round of the playoffs.
Toward the latter part of the season and during the postseason, Westbrook faced significant injury issues.
On Tuesday, the Nuggets confirmed that Westbrook had undergone successful surgery to repair torn ligaments in his right hand.
“Russell Westbrook has undergone surgery on his right hand to repair multiple ligament tears. He is expected to resume full off-season training this summer,” the team’s statement read.
This announcement followed Westbrook’s personal message earlier that morning, in which he disclosed plans to address two fractures in his hand sustained during the season.
“This morning, I had surgery on my right hand to repair two fractures I suffered during the season,” Westbrook wrote in his newsletter, Word of Westbrook. “Thank you all for the support throughout the year—I’m already working toward a full recovery. I’ll be back stronger soon. #WhyNot”
Westbrook showed notable progress this season on both offense and defense compared to his recent years with the Los Angeles Lakers and LA Clippers. The future Hall of Famer appears to have found a revitalizing fit in Denver.
