UPDATES: Denver Nuggets Outline Offseason Roster Strategy Following Decision to Retain David Adelman…
Following their elimination in the Western Conference Semifinals of the NBA Playoffs, the Denver Nuggets faced a critical decision regarding their coaching leadership. That question was resolved on Thursday when the organization confirmed that David Adelman would remain as head coach, signing him to a new contract. With that decision finalized, the franchise now shifts its attention to several pressing roster-related matters as they head into the offseason.
Due to limited flexibility under the salary cap, the Nuggets won’t have much room to make major additions through free agency. Team President Josh Kroenke indicated that the team would likely look inward for roster enhancements. According to Ryan Blackburn of Mile High Sports, Kroenke emphasized that internal development will be key.
“I believe a lot of the solutions are already within the team,” Kroenke stated. “Considering our current contract commitments and the transition in coaching, it’s a significant shift—truly a major change.”
Kroenke also pointed out that Adelman didn’t have sufficient time to fully instill his coaching approach and system, given how close his appointment was to the start of the postseason.
“David’s coaching philosophy, and the way he might utilize our players differently, hasn’t had much time to take root,” Kroenke added. “With the organizational changes already underway, I think our players are genuinely optimistic about the direction things are heading and what that could mean for them individually moving forward.”
In addition to stabilizing the coaching staff, the Nuggets are also in search of a new general manager, following the dismissal of Calvin Booth alongside former head coach Michael Malone. Despite the turbulence during the season, Denver secured a top-four seed in the competitive Western Conference.
They edged past the LA Clippers in a hard-fought seven-game series before being narrowly eliminated by the Oklahoma City Thunder, also in seven games. While just two years removed from their 2023 championship triumph, the team has seen key contributors from that title run—such as Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Bruce Brown, and Jeff Green—depart, creating a need for internal growth and strategic planning as they rebuild for another deep playoff puss.
