Nikola Jokic Reacts to MVP Snub Following Nuggets’ Playoff Exit
The Denver Nuggets’ 2024-25 NBA campaign ended in disappointment after being ousted in the second round of the playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Although the Nuggets pushed the series to a decisive Game 7, they were soundly defeated by 32 points on the Thunder’s home court, sending Oklahoma City to the Western Conference Finals and Denver into a pivotal offseason.
With key decisions ahead—including filling their vacant general manager and head coach positions—the Nuggets may also consider making changes to their roster. However, one constant is expected to remain: superstar center Nikola Jokic.
Jokic delivered arguably the finest season of his career, making him a finalist for the 2024-25 Kia NBA MVP award. The winner was revealed Wednesday night prior to Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Unfortunately for Jokic, the award went to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Thunder, who also had a standout season. Both players were considered top contenders for the honor throughout the year, but ultimately, only one could take home the trophy.
Voters favored Gilgeous-Alexander, recognizing his role in leading Oklahoma City to the league’s best record and delivering a career-best performance.
Jokic, however, had a compelling case: he averaged 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, 10.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game, while shooting an impressive 57.6% from the field and 41.7% from beyond the arc. He also made history by becoming just the second player ever to average a triple-double over an entire season.
Despite these remarkable achievements, Jokic was denied his fourth MVP title, as voters opted to honor Shai’s outstanding season instead.
